Day 103: Integrating Literacy into Inquiry

While the students are off this week, all the teachers have week-long PD. Today I had to go to 3 mandated sessions: Common Core, Tri-State Discussion, and Literacy. Pictured are my notes from the literacy session. Great to see that modeling instruction is a perfect fit! Lots of emphasis on “claim-evidence-reasoning” has given me hope that what I’m doing in chemistry is a good thing, despite some student protest (see Day 102).

hm, sounds like the CER framework really is getting around. i’d be interested in hearing about your experience with it if you ever try it out. i’ve given it a couple stabs but i’m not sure if i’m doing it right…
