Day 107: Cosmos in the Classroom


I’m home today — yesterday I was struggling to figure out sub plans for chemistry (not being well versed in chemistry simulations, movies, etc.). Then I remembered a segment from Carl Sagan’s “Cosmos” series that began: “If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.” Sagan then talks about the Big Bang, how atoms besides hydrogen are created in stars, and has a periodic table with samples of each element.

That is from Episode 9: The Lives of Stars. Luckily, our school has Cosmos on DVD (back when I taught astronomy). And I think it would be a crime to graduate high school without watching something from Carl Sagan. So I had the sub cue up Cosmos Episode 9 in chemistry today.
