Day 123: Diffusion

Collisions between water particles and dye particles cause the dye particles to spread out. What possible explanation could we invent to account for the differences between the blue dye spreading in cold water and the red dye doing in hot water?

    The mixing is primarily due to convection, not diffusion, although I lie to the kids and gloss over this. An order of magnitude calculation will show that the mixing time is way too short to be due to diffusion.
