Can you explain a little on how this works? I’m assuming that the numbers on the visible end are for each particular class (period 1, 3, and 7 respectively). Are the students names on the bottom end? Do you hand these out as students enter the classroom? I’ve just trying to visualize how the process goes. I have my students sit in groups of 3 or 4, and always struggle with finding a good way to shuffle up the groups, so this is interesting! Thanks!

      Hi Taylor,

You’re right: numbers are the class period and names are on the other end. I simply walk around the room and put a stick on each desk, saying each name. The key is that the grouping really is random and the kids can visibly see the randomness.
